STEAM – Digital Arts Pathway
Palm Middle School

The STEAM arts pathway is comprised of a digital arts course in sixth grade and a video
production course in seventh grade. The digital arts course teaches students the following:
• Design fundamentals and visual communication skills
• Digital media applications, digital photography and illustration
• Layout, production, and branding
Students learn to use current Creative Cloud software by Adobe, including Illustrator and
Photoshop. Adobe Photoshop is the industry standard for so many different disciplines including desktop publishing, multimedia design, web design, and much more. Adobe Illustrator is an essential design tool for anyone who needs to express ideas visually in print, on the web, and in any other medium.

The video production course teaches students all the tools and techniques that make
Apple Final Cut Pro X one of the best editing tools in the business. Students learn basic editing
functions while becoming familiar with the user interface. They start with media management,
importing and basic video editing techniques, and work all the way through Final Cut Pro’s
powerful advanced features such as effects, titles, and color correction. Students also work with real-world media to learn the practical techniques used daily in editing projects.
