This is a 7th & 8th Grade Robotics, Programming, and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) class. Students will be building and programming Lego EV3 robots. Students will also be exploring the components of STEAM through a variety of different projects and challenges. My philosophy is “Learning by Doing” and the class is mostly project-based. The classroom is a maker space that fosters creativity and tinkering. Students will learn to think critically to solve problems, and design and create solutions. Digital literacy is an ongoing focus. Teamwork and collaboration are vital to succeeding in this course.
During this course students will complete the Robotics curriculum created by Lego for their EV3 Robots. Students will also work on First Lego League challenge maps. Students will build mechanisms using gears, program motors & sensors and create fully automated robots by applying everything they have learned. Students will also complete a variety of STEAM challenges designed to get them to think and act like engineers. These projects will include building towers, simulated Mars landers, catapults, and more. Students will also learn to build and maintain for our school garden and take care of our classroom turtles.
